On Sunday, December 13, 2015 I was approached by my neighbor, Joe, who is an avid hunter. While bow hunting in the swamps of Carmel, New York, off Interstate 84, Joe was sitting in his tree stand waiting for deer to approach the area. He heard splashing about in the swamp to the east of him. When Joe turned to see what was splashing he saw what looked to be a very large man in the distance about 150 yards away. He was very tall and dark. Joe decided to get a better look at what he thought was a person. He pointed his bow toward the person to look through his scope. He couldn’t believe what he saw.
Joe went on to describe a creature about twelve feet tall with long shaggy black and brown fur, more black than brown. He said that the creature was splashing around with its arms and kicking the mud up from the bottom of the swamp as though it was fishing or searching for turtles. After about fifteen minutes he said the creature just turned and walked away through the swamp like it was nothing. It took large strides and swayed its arms back-and-forth. Joe described its arms as very long, so long that when the creature stood perfectly still a quarter of its arms were under water. At this point Joe decided to pack up his gear and head home for the day.
I asked him what made him think the creature was twelve feet tall. He explained that the swamp in that area is about six feet deep and the water came up to the creatures waist. I asked Joe how long he observed the creature for. He replied for at least fifteen minutes but that it felt like an eternity.
Joe is a skeptic and a nonbeliever in anything paranormal. I asked Joe if he still doubted the existence of Bigfoot. He replied “seeing is believing.”
